RFISD Board of Trustees Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent Position

On Thursday, October 19th, at the regularly called board meeting, the RFISD Board of Trustees voted 7-0 to name Dr. Clark Alan Lowery as the Lone Finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools.  Dr. Lowery has been serving as the Interim Superintendent of RFISD since the departure of Dr. Garcia in May 2023 and previously served as the Assistant Superintendent of RFISD since February, 2022.

Dr. Lowery was raised in Big Spring, Texas and received his B.A in Biology from Texas Tech University.  In 2009, he obtained his Master’s in Education from U.T. Permian-Basin and in 2021 received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M-Commerce.  Dr. Lowery has taught biology, chemistry, and physics, coached basketball, served as an assistant principal, secondary campus principal and assistant superintendent. He lives by words from his mother and father.  “It’s not about who you know, it’s who you were good to.” - Liz Lowery  “Never Let ambition exceed your patience for education.” - Clark Lowery

“This is a dream come true.  I am from a small town built on oil and gas.  My work has taken me all over the state for opportunities to learn from great leaders.  I am glad I have finally found a place to call home, a home with familiarity in the values and lifestyle.  I am proud to be a Pirate!”

By law, the Board must now wait 21 calendar days before considering a vote to execute a binding contract with Dr. Lowery.  Mr. Kenny Cruzan, Board President, would like to thank both staff and community for their input over the last five months while Dr. Lowery served as Interim Superintendent and states he is confident that under Dr. Lowery’s leadership, RFISD will achieve even greater heights in delivering excellence in education and student success.
